Looking unto Jesus in Humility

“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time”. 1 Peter 5:6 (KJV)

Humility is the christian virtue that defines a person who is transformed and broken by God. There is a humility that God sees, not the one man sees. The Lord wants you to look unto Jesus in humility. The first point of call of the humility of Christ was that “he was born in a Manger”, but He never remained there. It pleased the Father that the Saviour of mankind and his Only Begotten Son to be born in a manger and not a palace. This is symbolic of humility and it’s the highest level of humility displayed by Divinity that God wants humanity to reflect upon. God is never against humble and little beginnings but what he detests is remaining small.

Friends, when you humble yourself before God, the present day evil will bye pass you. (1 kings 21:29). Pride is alien to God so let it be foreign to you as pride is a character of the arrogant. Desist from it today for a man’s pride will bring him low. (Psalms 29:23). Humble yourself before the mighty hand of God that he may lift you up in due time. The lives of many are bombarded with problems consequent to pride as it goeth before a fall. Are you full of yourself? Are you perfumed with pride? Repent today and reflect humility in every of your conduct before God and man.

The second point of the humility of Christ was when he decided to wash his disciples feet for He said I have not come for men to serve me, but to serve and minister to men’s needs and sacrifice my life for many”. (Mark 10:45).

The word ‘servant’ is used interchangeably in scriptures. It means to attend to the needs of others, it typifies to put the interest of others first without fear or favour. Its the rendering of service borne out of sacrifice. Are you vexed when your fellow workers do not pay homage and loyalty to you? Do you pick offence and punish those under your authority who fail to respect and bow to your authority? Do you use your authority to suppress and destroy others for selfish gains? Do you feel so big to serve others especially those you have control over? Have a change of heart today for in humility lies meekness.

One key difference between a shepherd and an hireling is humility. While a shepherd leads and guides the sheepfold from the back ensuring there are no hide-outs inhabiting any sheep as and none is missing and go astray, the hireling wants to be seen at the forefront thus losing some sheep to predators for he wants to put himself first and not the interest of the sheep first.

Christ was so humble that despite all his achievements with the trinity on earth and in heaven, he gave no glory to himself and did not rob shoulders with the Godhead. (Phil 2:5). Pride is the character flop of the foolish and arrogant, humility is the character trait of the humble and meek. Are you proud or humble? God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Folks, do you desire to be humble? Do you seek to look to Jesus in humility? Then you must learn to accommodate people and see the good in them, see them the way God sees them, praise their strengths and don’t mock but work on their weaknesses, avoid blowing your trumpet yourself, try to speak less of yourself and achievements, develop the traits of kindness and gentleness in the wake of provocation, be ready to accept insults and injuries, see yourself as nothing but dust that will one day return to dust, stop looking down on people and comparing your self, possession or status with others for as long as you do this you will never see the great things above you. Be apt to teach for everyone you meet in life knows something that you don’t know that you need to learn from them, be patient to listen to others and their complaints, avoid been curious, learn to accept been slighted, forgotten and disliked, do not be quick to judge others, give room for the opinion of others even if you are their superior, so friends look unto Jesus in humility, look unto him and live.

Albert Einstein once said “A true genius admits that he or she knows nothing”, be helpful and not bossy, sympathetic without being sentimental, be bold for a just course but not rude, be frugal and liberal, avoid putting your interest and yourself before others. Look unto Jesus in humility, desire great things, but don’t steal to attain great things and heights for whoever exalt himself shall be abased and he that humble himself shall be exalted. (Luke 14:11) and until you humble yourself, you are never a candidate for divine lifting. (James 4:10).

Prayer Lines: Father, destroy every seed of pride in me and make me like Jesus in humility.
