Commit to Memory: “Righteous people flourish like palm trees and grow tall like the cedars in Lebanon.” (Psalm 92:12 GWT)
In today’s commit to memory, David said that the righteous man shall flourish like a Palm tree, he shall grow strong like the Cedars of Lebanon. Why? The Cedars of Lebanon were used to adorn the temple in ancient Israel. Cedars describes a man who is righteous in the sight of God. It represents Flourishing. Little wonder they have a lifespan of over 1000 years. You want to flourish in all you do, be righteous. How stay pure and run away from sin.
The cedar tree usually grow in four different ways. They grow upward, downward, outward and onward. Like a cedar, God desires we be those who grow downward and draw nourishment from Christ, grow upward as you keep your spiritual eyes on eternity, grow outward as you seek to touch others with your life and faith and grow onward with the lasting qualities and character of Jesus.
Looking at the life of David as a young man challenging a giant of 40 years experience never losing a battle. You begin to wonder what gave David the audacity to challenge Goliath of Gath? What was it that gave him assurance that he will defeat Goliath? It was because David knew that as far he stayed and remained on the righteous side with God and like a cedar of Lebanon victory was guaranteed. He just knew that as far as he had remained in his presence; he was going to flourish in all he did. How? The Cedars of Lebanon is about 120-150 feet tall- that’s about the height of a 10-12 story building and about 40-80 feet wide. In fact the roots are so firm such that they can grow as much as 300 feet deep into the ground, so when David saw Goliath this understanding made him see Goliath as a dwarf because as far as David was concerned he was a flourishing cedar of Lebanon whose total height was (120+300)feet that’s 420 feet tall compared to a dwarfed Goliath of 6 feet 9 inches tall so this gave him the temerity to belittle Goliath. He said “who is this uncircumcised philistine that defileth the armies of the Lord, this day Goliath you shall be food for the slaughter” and that was it. I pray for a regular user of this inspiration the Lord will make you like the cedars of Lebanon deeply rooted in Him in Jesus name.
Reflection: Until we are deeply rooted in Christ, we never can flourish in all we do…
