Commit to Memory: “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” (Matthew 26:41 NIV)
Any and every time we overcome temptation, we become more like Jesus in Wisdom. Running away from our trials may be easier but it will not give us the results that God intends for us. But the good news is that whenever we are alert in prayer, God supplies the grace and wisdom to overcome temptations. See what 1 Corinthians 10:13 says
“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it”.
In today’s commit to memory, one way we gain victory and wisdom over temptations is perseverance in prayer. Do you know if you sustain the discipline of prayer, the Lord will deliver you from every evil that may come from temptation? Little wonder, Jesus mentioned in the Lord’s prayer to the disciples to pray that God should deliver them from evil (the evil one). Why? Running away from our trials may be easier but it will not give us the results that God intends for us. It’s for this reason that Jesus had to fast and pray to be able to overcome the temptations of Satan and the cross.
Prayer is communing with God and drawing strength from His Spirit to live above the cosmos and dead works. The more you are immersed in prayer, the less you will be inclined to fall into temptation. So friends, if you align your body, soul, spirit, mind and thoughts with God in prayer, you’re not going to use your free will to choose to sin. The spirit in a born again Christian, is willing to do good and be aligned with God’s will and Spirit, but the flesh is weak in that area; it only thinks of satisfying it’s desires and needs, and does not care about spiritual things. I pray for a user of this inspiration, as you begin to draw strength in prayer- may you not fall for the temptation the enemy has projected for your downfall.
Reflection: In the face of temptation, victory is guaranteed if the wisdom of God is at work.
