Distractions- Part 3

Commit to Memory: “Fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:2  NLT).

When we allow other things to consume our lives we drift away from God. Fix your eyes back on the captain. Get rid of the distractions that technology and gadgets brings. Satan always tries his best to distract us and when we get serious about having fellowship with the Lord he will try to distract you even more. Friends, there is too much noise everywhere, so spend time with the Lord like you would with your child. Know that He is with you on the journey. He’s guiding you to the right place. If you persevere in prayer, at the right time He will answer.

In the words of John MacArthur: “The more you focus on yourself, the more distracted you will be from the proper path. The more you know Him and commune with Him, the more the Spirit will make you like Him. The more you are like Him, the better you will understand His utter sufficiency for all of life’s difficulties. And that is the only way to know real satisfaction.”

So then the question is where should we set our gaze to avoid the several distractions in this world? What’s God’s plan to side line distractions in our lives? Beloved, your focus should be on Jesus Christ. (Heb. 12: 2) as captured in today’s commit to memory. We must focus our attention on Jesus who has given us an example that we should follow in His steps (1 Pet. 2: 21), and has promised us eternity with Him in heaven (John 14: 2-4). Also we must seek the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness. (Matt. 6: 33). This requires that you must desire and submit to the will of God at all times (Matt. 7: 21). Why? It is the will of God that we should repent from our sins, Confess Christ as Lord and Saviour, be baptized to wash sins away, be added to the body of Christ, His Church (Acts 2: 47), stay away from every form of evil and be faithful until death and then more than anything we must live with eternity in view. How? Heaven must be our focus. Col. 3:20-21 says

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from where we also eagerly wait for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body that it may be conform to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself”

Paul had his focus on heaven (Phil. 3: 12-15), the reason he disciplined his body to avoid being disqualified (1 Cor. 9: 27). I pray whatever is distracting you from what will make you fulfil the plan and purposes of God for your life and destiny will be consumed by fire in Jesus name.

Reflection: Don’t let the noise of the public place keep you from hearing the voice of God in the secret place…

Prayer Lines: Father, give me capacity to absorb pain and stay focused to your will for my life.
