Distractions

Commit to Memory: “…Separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.” (Genesis 13:9 KJV)

Distraction is a cause for alarm to the believer, infact it’s a serious spiritual issue which every Believer must carefully avoid. God expects that if we must fulfil our destinies in Him, then we must remain committed to the faith. On the other hand, the devil, in his presumptuous nature, is doing all he can to get us distracted from our path to heaven. That is why we must endeavour to submit to God, resist the distractive tendencies of the devil and any kind of distraction.

Today, I like us to look at distractions in the form of people. Distractions can come in the form of people. Your association with certain kinds of people can either make or deter you from getting on top gear in your destiny pursuit. Are there certain individuals in your life whose intention in your life is to always subtract and never adding value to your life? Think about that for a moment. They are in your life only for what they can get from you. They get water, your time, your energy, money, food, clothing, information, any and everything from you and guess what, notwithstanding all of these you give to them, they will still complain and put you out there in bad light. Sincerely Beloved you sure need to close the chapter of such acquaintances in your life. Press the delete button and let them go. Are there people in this category in your life, listen let them go. You need to be intentional about it. The Bible says in today’s commit to memory that Abraham asked Lot to separate from him.

And the aftermath of this difficult but wise decision Abraham took made him to manifest all that was written of him. Infact God only blessed Abraham indeed after Lot had separated from him. Genesis 13:14-17 puts it this way:

“And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward: for all the land which thou seest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever. And I will make thy seed as the dust of the earth: so that if a man can number the dust of the earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered. Arise, walk through the land in the length of it and in the breadth of it; for I will give it unto thee.”

Another example is Isaac. As far as heaven was concerned, in as much Ishmael was in the house- it was a threat to Isaac- the child of promise, this explains why God will instruct Abraham to listen to Sarah- his wife and send away Ishmael and his mother even though Ishmael was also Abraham’s son of the bond woman. Do you know that there are some people in your life at the moment that will always make you sad, feel unimportant, talk down and ill of you, you need to prayerfully let them go. In fact, they are the reason of all the negative things plaguing your life. An example again of such people is Jonah. Immediately he entered the ship heading for Tarshish, there was unrest and pandemonium everywhere but immediately he was thrown out of the ship, peace and rest was restored to everyone. I pray for a user of this devotional, the Lord will perfect a situation that will separate you from such negative people in Jesus name.

Reflection: When people pose as distraction to your dreams, make them irrelevant…

Prayer Lines: Father, I receive grace and wisdom to separate from every association that is not adding value to my life.
