A Cry for Help

Commit to Memory: “Be not far from me, for trouble is near and there is none to help.” (Psalm 22:11 AMPC).

One of the names of Jesus is called the Refuge from the storm. This is because he takes joy in delivering the righteous in the midst of trouble. In the days of his flesh the Lord Jesus said as far as you are a believer; in this world you will have tribulation, but be of good cheer, you will overcome. Why? Because as Jesus is, so are we in this world and because he overcame, you and I can and will overcome too. So our hope should be in the Lord who has promised to be with us and never to leave us for He is our refuge in the time of trouble. In such turbulent moments, the Lord wants us to cry out to him for help and stop looking to man. He said in Matthew 11:28 GNT

“Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads, and I will give you rest.”

In today’s commit to memory, David calls upon the Lord to be near him. Why? His enemies surrounded him and death seemed imminent. And so he drew strength from the Lord, he looked away from man and cried to God for help. Why? He saw that it is only the Lord that could help him. This storyline typologically talks about the Lord Jesus how he faced death all alone. No one could help Him. The Roman officials, the Jewish leaders, and the chameleon crowd who would say at a time all hail the king of the Jews and at another time say crucify him! Thus calling for His crucifixion certainly wouldn’t help Him. His disciples offered no help as one of them betrayed and another denied him; they had fled when the soldiers arrested Jesus (Matthew 26:56). Nailed to a cross, there was nothing practically his loved ones could do but watch Him die (John 19:25–27). It was a terrible experience the Saviour had but through it all, his gaze and help was in God. May the Lord hear your heart cry and send send help your way today in Jesus name.

Reflection: When trouble draws near make sure God is closer…
