Commit to Memory: “Mercy to the needy is a loan to God, and God pays back those loans in full”. (Proverbs 19:17 MSG).
Beloved, I like you to reflect on today’s commit to memory. Ask yourself, Are you merciful? How merciful are you? Have you no more conscience? Why have you decided to shut your bowels of compassion to that young and less privileged child who ran to you to plead for school fees but then you roared at him, you shouted at her with the exclamation: “Am I your father, am I your mother, do I know you” and you know what God was watching and saying let me see how you will rise, let me see who is that man or woman that will show you mercy in your time of need. Friends, does this portray you? Repent today.
God wants you if you name his name to have mercy on the poor, the widows, orphans, destitute, oppressed but above all- have mercy on yourself by turning a new leaf. How? Stop living in sin so that you can see the mercy of God. It is for this reason Jesus said that we must show merciful on the sick, prisoners, the hungry etc and that if you and I do show mercy to any of these as aforementioned then, it means we have shown such acts of kindness to Him. Jesus puts it this way in Matt.25:40
“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me”.
Whenever you are merciful to others, it unveils the true nature of God which is love. Why? Love and only love defines that your relationship is rooted solely in God. When we show acts of kindness and compassion to our neighbours after God we fulfil the whole commandment. While not ask the Lord to take away the heart of stone that makes you lack compassion as together we cry for his mercy in the order of blind bartemeus.
Reflection: The easiest way to receive God’s mercy is to sow seeds of kindness in the life of others especially the less privileged.
