Commit to Memory: Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” (James 1:4 NIV)
We become matured in Christ when the works of righteousness abounds in our lives. A spiritually matured Believer is one in whose character Christ like qualities are evident, especially when dealing with difficult situations and people. There are a lot of things that could attempt to shake you once you make up your mind to follow Jesus, but once you are planted on the rock, once you are intentional to persevere in difficult moments and situations, I mean once you are matured you will not be moved a bit by those things. For example people may provoke you to wrath, men may bear false witness against you, people may look you in the face and point accusing fingers at you, or men may revile, persecute and say all manner of evil against you just as Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 5:11. In such difficult moments, look away and move on and refuse to be angry.
The Bible says Jesus began to teach the people many things (Mark 4:2, 6:34). There are many things that if we know better we will not be angry again with people. If we know better, we will talk less and ignore a lot of things and issues that bring pain to us.
To persevere in perilous times like this and show that you are spiritually matured: you must be dead to the flesh, give yourself to fastings and holy living, imitate Christ in all your endeavours, discipline your tongue- you must not talk in every matter, the bible says that when a fool keeps quiet for a moment- he is considered wise. Be rich in good works and influence as many you come in contact with, portray a good reaction to painful experiences, have a right attitude to the issues of life, align your thoughts with God’s word, offer gratitude in unfavourable situations, soak yourself with the word, leave people alone and what they think about you and focus on God, build a prayer altar and train yourself to tolerate people. If you do these things, then in the eyes of God you are matured spiritually. I pray the grace to walk in this path the Lord will release upon thee today in Jesus name.
Reflection: Spiritual Maturity is a lifelong process never attained over night.
Prayer Lines: Father, the grace to persevere in difficult moments and challenging situations release upon me.
