Spiritual Maturity- Part 2

Commit to Memory: “For everyone who continues to feed on milk is obviously inexperienced and unskilled in the doctrine of righteousness (of conformity to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action), for he is a mere infant [not able to talk yet]! But solid food is for full-grown men, for those whose senses and mental faculties are trained by practice to discriminate and distinguish between what is morally good and noble and what is evil and contrary either to divine or human law.” (Hebrews 5:13-14 AMPC).

If we must ascend the hill of the Lord, we need to grow up spiritually and this growth must be deliberate and daily. This is God’s desire for every of his children if we sincerely desire to grow up in the things of the Spirit. 2 Peter 3:18 NASV tells us to:

“Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.”

Friends, God wants you to grow to maturity spiritually, it is for this reason our commit to memory says we cannot continue the use of milk if we must be skilled in the Kingdom of righteousness. The New Living Translation puts it this way:

“For someone who lives on milk is still an infant and doesn’t know how to do what is right.”

Spiritual Maturity does not happen as you grow older. Infact, you can get older and not grow to spiritual maturity. This means you must be intentional in your approach to live childish things as it concerns spiritual things.

What then are the traits of a spiritually matured believer. They include but not limited to these: Spiritual Maturity is that conscious and consistent growth the Holy Spirit wants to birth in the life of a Believer, it is the formation of Christ bodily in our words, actions and motives, it’s the mystery of godliness repeated in us, it’s been identified with Christ in his sufferings, death, burial and resurrection, its holiness in the secret and open, it’s measuring up to the standard of God in all we do and think, it’s not a mere possession of spiritual gifts but spiritual fruit. Why? There is a big difference between spiritual gifts and the attainment of spiritual maturity in the eyes of God.  Beloved, does this define your conduct and life style? If yes keep on pressing on, if no wake up today.

Reflection: Recognition is what people say about you. Character is what God knows about you. Are you matured spiritually?

Prayer Lines

•Father, make me grow in grace and knowledge in Thee like never before

•Father, as I press on in the things of the Spirit, keep me focused that I may not look back
