Spiritual Checkups

Commit to Memory: “Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it. Test and prove yourselves [not Christ]. Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you–unless you are [counterfeits] disapproved on trial and rejected?” (2 Corinthians 13:5 AMPC)

When you look in the mirror, what do you see? Most assuredly, you will see your image reflected. In same similitude, day after day, week after week, month after month, year after year and until Christ returns we need to look into the mirror of the word of God to examine ourselves, we need to watch out for repeating errors, faults, easily besetting sins and character deficiencies that detests the Father. We must be intentional to deal with these issues and trust the Lord to fix them and ensure we look presentable in His eyes. So by regular spiritual checkups, we begin to look into the spiritual mirror of the word to help us examine ourselves that we may be in right standing with the Lord.

Beloved, in simple terms spiritual checkups means self examination of your Christian walk with the Lord every now and then. Is your secret place Devotion still functional and burning? Is your prayer altar broken? Why not go ahead and begin to rebuild your broken altar. You need to tell God that He is the fire and you are the sacrifice; so He should consume you so that whatever it is that does not look like Jesus living or manifesting in your life will be burnt. You need to tell Him that you will do all within the confines of His grace to please Him.

According to our commit to memory, Paul encouraged the people on the need for spiritual checkups. When you look and examine your life, what do you see? Do you see the manifestation of the works of the flesh? Is the flesh ruling and reigning in your mortal body? Or do you see the character of God the Father and Jesus Christ reflected in everything that concerns you? We need to examine ourselves every day and work upon the deficiencies we see by the help of the Spirit. May the Lord supply the requisite grace in this wise.

Reflection: Without Self-examination, there is no spiritual growth. If a man is stunted spiritually, how can he see Christ in glory?

Prayer Lines

•Father, conquer anger, pride, lust and the works of the flesh manifesting in my life.
