The Need for Discernment- part 4

Commit to Memory: “The king summoned Nathan the prophet. Look, David said, “I am living in a beautiful cedar palace, but the Ark of God is out there in a tent! Nathan replied to the king, Go ahead and do whatever you have in mind, for the Lord is with you.”  2 Samuel 7:2-3 NLT

As the return of Christ draws nearer daily, the need for discernment is becoming a must get for the end time Believer. Discernment is not a skill set but a gift the Holy Spirit bestows on a Believer who surrenders to the yielding and transformation by the Spirit. There is the discernment of spirits, actions, thoughts and intents, dream interpretation, gifts and of course seasons, so these are areas God desires you to show forth this gift. By this gift; Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dreams, Peter knew Ananias and Sapphira were lying,  Jesus knew what to do when they brought to him the woman caught in the very act of adultery. I pray in the midst of the storm, may heaven reveal to you what to do.

As humans our motives at times may be right in all sincerity, but contrary to the plan and will of God in certain situations. The storyline of today’s commit to memory showed that when David was settled after God had given him rest from battles and had conquered several grounds and lands of the surrounding enemies, the humanity in him wanted to manifest and so it dawned on David that why will he be dwelling in a dazzling and beautiful palace but the ark of the Lord was abandoned out there in a tent. And so in the sincerity of his heart, he purposed to build the Lord a temple, with this thought line he sent for the prophet and told him his desire and Nathan gave him a go ahead even with a prayer of his blessings. But that night, the Lord spoke to Nathan to go warn David that he cannot build Him a temple. Why? Because his hands were full of blood. And so as far as God was concerned, that was not his desire at that time even though the prophet didn’t perceive the mind of God in this wise.

Friends, what is it that seemeth right to you that you have engaged or want to start? Have you asked the Lord whether he is in support of it? O yes, it may sound right morally, it may look appealing to rescue people but does it have the finger of God. The motive behind it might even be right, yet God is not interested in it.  It may even look or seem the Lord endorsed your motive and conviction, but have you thought it right to engage a prayer of inquiry? Solomon puts it this way in Prov.19:21 GNT:

“People may plan all kinds of things, but the LORD’s will is going to be done.”

People may try to win you over, just stay focused. Leave people alone as you are not going to answer before men but the Lord on the last day. Ask the Lord to give you the seeing eyes and the hearing ears to see and hear from Him on every occasion and issues of your life.

Reflection: Any time you make hasty decisions, you are likely to misfire. Identify the areas of your life that needs divine direction and inquire of the Lord.

Prayer Lines: Father give me the seeing eyes and hearing ears that I may be led by your Spirit now and always.
