The Need for Discernment- part 2

Commit to Memory: ”Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building.” Genesis‬ ‭11:4-5‬ ‭NIV

The quest for Discernment is a very key element in the life of a believer as it will save him or her from errors, costly mistakes, exhaustion, time wastage thus enhancing productivity, increase, dumbfounding results and fruitfulness. Do you desire the gift of Discernment- a gift of the Spirit? It answers to brokenness, surrenderedness, spiritual hunger and thirst. Wait on the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit and it shall be released.

Beloved, the fact that something or an idea or submission seems attractive, pleasing to the senses such that majority of people key and buy into it is not a reliable indication of its true nature and does not by any way imply God’s approval. This means that not everything that looks precious or true turns out to be wholesome and pleasant. Why? All we see is not all there is. Why? That a situation or idea is logical to reasoning or makes a lot of sense to your intellect, to your thought line or pattern does not in any way translate God is at the center of it all.

The storyline of our commit to memory today relays that certain goal oriented and visionary smart thinkers came together with unity of purpose to build a tower whose apex will reach the heaven. Their motive was to make a name for themselves so that they would not be scattered abroad as the earth’s population increases. But it’s so contrasting to see here that the Almighty God was against this submission and vision. Why? It was not the will of God for the human race to reside in one location as not to spread abroad and multiply will jeopardize his original plan at creation. If God should prosper their plan, it will negate his plan of multiplication and fruitfulness (Gen. 1:26). So the Trinity Council came down and confused their languages such that they could not understand each other anymore leading to abandonment of this goal and great project. On the contrary, if they had inquired of the Lord before embarking on this project, the reverse will had been the case. See what God said to Samuel in ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭16:7‬ ‭NIV

“But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Friends, life will place before you all kinds of invitations, it will take discernment to know what and when to say yes to and those to say no to. Are you seeking the face of God on every matter or looking at the face of men to make judgement? It’s my prayer for a user of this inspiration that you will no longer make hasty decisions in the flesh.

Reflection: You can become discerning when your desire to please God exceeds your longing to please the flesh and world.

Prayer Lines: Father, among the series of beckoning opportunities that come my way, make me wise enough to choose your desire and will
