Living for Pleasure- Part 2

Commit to Memory: “By faith Moses, when he was come to years, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter; choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season; esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt: for he had respect unto the recompence of the reward.” (Hebrews 11:24-26 KJV)

The reason for your creation is to live for His pleasure. Not for your pleasure or the world’s pleasure. For example, the life of the patriarch Enoch in a perverse generation were sin was on the rise had a testimony that he lived a life that was for the pleasure of Elohim. The Bible says he pleased God. Do you know that if all you live for is to impress and please men, you need to think again why you live. If your heart gravitates towards seeking the pleasures of this world, then you are poor towards God.

Today’s commit to memory says Moses chose not to “enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season.” The song writer got it right when he sang I’ll live for Jesus day after day. So Beloved take heed that your life do not become similar to those in the world. We are not to be conformed to—meaning fashioning oneselves according to—those in the world. We are to mortify—put to death—any attitude or feeling that leads us to want to participate in the pleasure of sin for a season. We are to flee-run away from- youthful lusts. We are to deny- refuse or reject—ungodliness and worldly desires. We are to love not the world and all that it has to offer.

Apostle Paul said in Philippians 2:13 that “it is God who works in us, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” God does not want us to live for worldly pleasures but for His pleasure alone. The Bible says that those who are given to pleasure literally say in their mind, “Nothing matters except me.” They live as if they are the centre of the universe. They do not care about the needs of others and simply base their decisions on what will be fun for them. The truth is that any time you are given to impulse, there is always a tendency to act first and think later. This must never be your approach if you are seeking to please God. You must realize that the pleasures the world offers is only but for a “season”- it is temporary and will not last. Friends, do you want to be focused on things that will not last or on something that will last for all eternity? Do you want to set your gaze on things of eternal value? What is your purpose for living? What are you living for? The choice is yours.

Reflection: Seeking worldly pleasures is a way of life for the one that is headed for destruction.

Prayer Lines: Father, give me the grace to live for your pleasure all of my days.
