Living for Pleasure

Commit to Memory: “Don’t love the world’s ways. Don’t love the world’s goods. Love of the world squeezes out love for the Father. Practically everything that goes on in the world—wanting your own way, wanting everything for yourself, wanting to appear important—has nothing to do with the Father. It just isolates you from him. The world and all its wanting, wanting, wanting is on the way out—but whoever does what God wants is set for eternity.” (1 John 2:15-17 MSG)

Life is not about pleasure and the craving for material gains. You are not created to live for the pleasure of the world but for God’s pleasure. Why? Your destiny is been bargained any time you set your heart and build your confidence on material possessions or wealth. Any time you set your heart and begin to boast of your material possessions, you are actually attributing these things to your making, skills and strength. Infact you are calling for your exit from the earth. How? In Luke 12:16–21, Jesus gave a parable of a particular rich fool. The story depicts the futility of the belief that wealth can secure prosperity or a good life. At the end of it, the soul of the rich man the Lord called a rich fool was demanded as his last breath came to an end immediately he began to attribute all he acquired and had to his power, connections and skills.

In 1 Timothy 5:6, Paul said the one that lives for pleasure is dead while he lives. Does all that make meaning to you is when you begin to acquire one house after another, one estate after another, changing women like clothes, drinking to stupor and been caught in the web of the use of hard drugs? Listen, the Lord will have me tell you to repent and turn to God. You may say I will repent later after all God is merciful, he will forgive me but because God is Just you may slow down your journey in destiny and encounter the consequences of your actions. This understanding should make us courteous and careful in the way we live our lives. Has God has been telling you stop this, stop that and then you say Lord just give me a little time I will refrain and stop it but then what you don’t know is that you just postponed and stopped what God would have done for, in and with you in record time.

Friends, are you wondering why you can’t shut darkness down in your domain, it’s because you are living for pleasure. You do everything for ulterior motives, so there is no where to draw strength and power. You wonder why those who don’t know what you claim you know have the results you admire and long for- it’s because you are living for pleasure. Are you always after yourself? You only help people for what you can get and strictly for ulterior motives. You wonder why you talk so much with no proofs to show- it’s simply because all you do is to live for pleasure. Is your heart after what you can gain from one business transaction and the other the Lord wants you to tread with caution so that you don’t do that at the expense of your soul. It’s because of this the Bible says godliness with contentment is great gain. Why? We brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. Heaven and earth will pass away, the houses and luxurious cars will pass away. So Beloved, don’t build your confidence on pleasures but on things of eternal value and I tell you the very things men crave and cleave to will begin to run to you by default. Glory to God.

Reflection: If all you do is to lay up treasures for yourself in this world, you are not wise and rich towards God...
