Commit to Memory: “…That they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3 KJV)
I once read a story of a lady who was asked the secret of her ever green inner and outer beauty and glowing complexion. In her response she attributed it to her “make-up.” She said: for my lips- I use truth, for my voice- I use kindness, for my eyes- I use compassion, for my hands- I use charity, for my figure- I use uprightness, for my heart- I use love and for any who do not like me I use prayer. So as confessing believers and covenant people, you and I are not to add to the moral corruption and sinful atmosphere of our times, but rather as God supplies grace, we are to be humble faithful witnesses in the way of godliness in all spheres of life daily, weekly and every circumstance.
Beloved, God in and through Christ is out to make us become and be like trees of righteousness, to be known and shown as such. Are you like a tree of righteousness, and will you be like a tree of righteousness in your life, by God’s grace, to His honour and for your neighbour’s good? God sees and wants us be as tall, firm and strong as the cedar tree. Little wonder He said in Jeremiah 17:7-8.
“Blessed is the man that trusts in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreads out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat comes, but her leaf shall be green, and shall not be careful in the years of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
Today’s commit to memory says the Lord has produced in each one of us trees of righteousness. The seasons- be it hot or cold does not determine our fruitfulness because we are planted by God on the river side. It says we’re the planting of the Lord; He planted us in His garden and has made us co-workers with Him. 1 Corinthians 3:9 tells us, “…we are labourers together with God: you are God’s husbandry, you are God’s building.” This means as Christians, we’re God’s field and garden. Our assignment is to bear fruits. That’s what we do as trees of righteousness. We bear fruits of righteousness. Halelluyah.
Reflection: If you’re in God’s vineyard as a fellow labourer with God, then as a tree of righteousness, you must produce other trees of righteousness.
Prayer Lines
•Father, as a Tree of righteousness, forgive me in any way I have misrepresented you.
•Father, because I am your planting, help me to bear lasting fruits.
