Communion with God- Part 2

Commit to Memory: “That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3 KJV)

Communion can be described as fellowship, partnership, participation or a union of friendship in this wise between you and God. Jesus speaking in John 15:3 said eternal life is knowing God as the true God and Jesus- the Saviour. Friends, God wants us to know him experientially. Day after day and nights after nights, he wants to display knowledge to as many that will seek, hunger and thirst after Him.

In today’s commit to memory, Apostle John opens his letter by asserting that one major purpose of the Christian message is that we may enter into the apostolic fellowship, which is “with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ”. Such fellowship with God is at the very heart of what it means to be a Christian. Christianity is not, at its core, the observance of rituals or rules, but rather it is a walk of personal communion with the Almighty God.

God is light and cannot have fellowship with darkness and sin. Why? Sin separates us from God. But Christ manifested to destroy the works of the Devil, that we might have fellowship with God again. This is why John starts by revealing the standard for fellowship.  1 John 1:5 says:

“This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.”

Beloved, when we toy with sin, it affects our fellowship with God and keeps the Godhead far from us as the heaven is from the earth. Sin separates us from the Triune God. It makes heaven to be deaf to our prayers and look away from our situation. The evidence that you have communion with God is that we walk in His light and cling to righteousness. It is a changed life. So begin every day with a renewed commitment to let Jesus be your life today. Do you want Jesus in your life, say this with me: “Lord Jesus I give this day to You. Come and live Your live in me. I give my mind and heart to You. I make myself available to you. Here is my life; live Your life in and through me today in Jesus name.”

Reflection: The quality of your life is a function of your communion with God…

Prayer Lines: Jesus please reveal the Father to me. Give me an encounter O God.
