Commit to Memory: “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” (Proverbs 18:21)
The words we speak is a matter of life and death. What this means is that we can experience blessings in our life by the words that we speak but then we can also attract destruction in our lives if we speak ill, wrongly and evil. We can control our whole life if we control our tongue. Why? Blessings or curses makes for possibilities and are usually conveyed by words. Infact, our words can determine the direction of our lives. We have to give an account before God on the day of judgement for every careless word that we speak. Therefore we must be very careful over every word that we speak to ourselves and fellow men. We must train our minds to speak kind words always because we only speak out of the abundance of our hearts. So friends mean what you say and say what you mean. Stop using your words to make people feel less important because you want to prove a point, Cease from using derogatory words on anyone no matter what you perceive of them, don’t make people around you develop low self-esteem because of your direct or indirect use of abusive words, quit shouting down men as this will destroy the relationships that you really need closer to you. Little wonder Jesus said in Matthew 12:34-37
“…For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Beloved, our hearts must be filled with the word of God. Why? There is enormous power in the word of God. God created the universe by the words that He spoke .When we speak the word of God , the power of God will be released to accomplish the purpose for which it is sent. The word of God guides the words we say and so we must continually hear the word of God in order to fill our hearts with faith. In Genesis 1, we see that when confusion, emptiness, chaos and darkness beclouded the earth, God never complained or was tired of the periled status quo nor spoke ill of the negative atmosphere, He simply said “Let there be Light”. What an approach to deal with negative situations by Speaking wisely, rightly and positively. Glory to God.
Reflection: You are snared and taken by the words of your mouth; Guide your words.
