Persistence in Prayers

Commit to Memory: “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8 NLT)

Many of the miracles we read all through scriptures were birthed because of persistence. I like us to consider the periled story of the woman with the issue of blood who had been bleeding for twelve years. Doctors could do nothing to salvage her pain. To make it worst, she was considered “unclean” by the people of her time and was often ignored, dispised and stigmatised. Any time she came near people, they would move away from her to avoid contamination. But when she heard about Jesus; even though she was an outcast and considered unclean, she said to herself I would not be denied the opportunity to at least touch the helm of the garment of Jesus. Who would know afterall? And, maybe, if she touched Him, she would finally be healed. So she prepared for the worst notwithstanding she would be silenced- she just persisted in her attempt to touch the edge of Jesus’ clothing. What an attempt no wonder she got healed and whole. So she pressed through the crowd. She persisted, and, with a shaking arm, she reached her fingers out to grasp the edge of his robe. She quickly let go, no doubt overwhelmed by the warmth and power of God’s love that began to flow through her body and heal what was wrong with her. She felt the power of the Lord because of her persistence – and Jesus felt virtue leaving His body and stopped everything to find out who had touched Him. (Luke 8:43-48)

Friends, Do you name the name of Christ? If yes then God wants you to be persistent in prayers. Today’s commit to memory says keep on asking until you receive, keep on searching until you find and keep on knocking until the door is opened to you. This means that you need to ask more, search more and knock more until your testimony arrives and your joy is full. See what Jesus said in Luke 11:5-8 NLT

“Then, teaching them more about prayer, he used this story: Suppose you went to a friend’s house at midnight, wanting to borrow three loaves of bread. You say to him, ‘A friend of mine has just arrived for a visit, and I have nothing for him to eat.’ And suppose he calls out from his bedroom, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is locked for the night, and my family and I are all in bed. I can’t help you.’ But I tell you this-though he won’t do it for friendship’s sake, if you keep knocking long enough, he will get up and give you whatever you need because of your shameless persistence.”

This reveals that God wants us to be shamelessly persistent in prayers in the similitude of the woman with the issue of blood as exemplified today. Why? Many have accomplished enviable heights because they refuse to give up on their dreams.

Reflection: Persistence breaks Resistance of any and every kind.

Prayer Lines: Father, give me the grace to be persistent in prayers until my joy is full.
