The Promise of the Father

Commit to Memory: “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49 KJV)

Most atimes, we promise and fail to keep our words. I was dazed to learn that the Japanese value the integrity of their words such that they rarely break a promise they make to you. For instance: if a Japanese man gives you 8:00am for a business meeting, he will certainly be there 10 to 30 minutes before the business time of 8:00am. Now if for any reason he is not able to meet up with that time, he will commit suicide for failure not to have kept to his words. Hmmm, this is still a man not to talk of God who is the Promise keeper of all times. What he says he will do and what he can do he will say, He is too faithful to fail and to disappoint as touching any and every of his promises concerning you. So when Jesus said he was going to send the promise of the Father he was talking about the Holy Spirit and most adsuredly the Holy Spirit descended on the day of Pentecost (Acts 1:8-9).

But then, how did this happen when Jesus was done with the work of redemption, as he was about to ascend on high, he gathered and promised the disciples the promise of the father. The promise of the father is the Holy Spirit. So the fact that though Jesus was going back to the father, he will not leave them and even you and I comfortless- He was going to send us all another Comforter, who is exactly like him and so when he left he sent us his Holy Spirit to abide, guide, guard, provide and do everything that Christ did and represented for us. But why did Jesus do this? He did this because the whole world lie in wickedness. Why? In this world we will have tribulation, but as far as you and I have the greater one living in us, I mean the Holy Spirit; then you and I will overcome the world. Glory to God.

Often times, we cannot sense the presence of God in our lives because of the darkness of sin, the shadows of worry and anxiety, the shades of suffering and death, and the awful perils that sickness and suffering brings.

Friends, we need to remember that God came into the world in the presence of the Holy Spirit to provide a constant source of courage and strength. The Holy Spirit is all-powerful, all-wise, and ever-present with the believer; so make it a point of duty today to seek him and watch him pour himself into your needs. Hallelujah

Prayer Lines: Holy Spirit you are the gift, promise of the Father and the Spirit of Christ come and rule, reign and have your way in my life.
