Righteousness before God

Commit to Memory:  “You have loved righteousness [You have delighted in integrity, virtue, and uprightness in purpose, thought, and action] and You have hated lawlessness (injustice and iniquity). Therefore God, [even] Your God (Godhead), has anointed You with the oil of exultant joy and gladness above and beyond Your companions. (Hebrews 1:9 AMPC)

The word translated righteousness literally means to be “in right-standing” with God. We have been put in right-standing with God through the work of Jesus at Calvary. When a person accepts Jesus, he or she is moved into a position of new birth and enters into the kingdom of God as God’s very own child and a joint heir with Jesus Christ. This is the first stage that does not require your work but the works of Christ and it is pertinent that Christians begin to see themselves as righteous- because there is power in knowing the truth about righteousness as one of the finished works of Christ at Cavalry.

But then, there is a righteousness that requires your work. That is your desire and heart to continually be in right standing with God and to please Him. This doctrine is silent these days and the truth is that everyone of us must continually work out our personal salvation with fear and trembling. See what the Bible said concerning Enoch in Genesis 5:22 & 24 AMPC

“And Enoch walked [in habitual fellowship] with God; and he was not, for God took him [home with Him].”

Hmm, Enoch’s fellowship with God was an habit and became a lifestyle. He was so close and in right standing with God such that God had to translate him. You must make up your mind to live righteously. Don’t join the multitude to do evil. Be fair in your judgement of things. This was the testimony of Jesus as portrayed in today’s commit to memory- He loved righteousness and detested evil, sin and unrighteousness. May the Lord help us in Jesus name.

Reflection: Constant kneeling will keep you in right standing with God.
