Commit to Memory: “When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you.” (Isaiah 43:2 NLT)

In life, there are certain heights that if you get there, only the wilderness experiences you have been through in the past that will sustain your success there. If you get there by favour, you most assuredly will come down. It is for this reason Jesus needed the wilderness experience of forty days and forty nights. For Moses, it was forty years and for Paul it was 3 years in the wilderness of Arabia (Gen. 1:2, 16-17; Acts 1:21). Why? The way to the throne is and remains the cross, nothing more; nothing less.

Beloved, it’s amazing God wants us to pass through deep waters and walk through the fires of life so that we can become what he wants us to be. The wilderness experience gives weight to your spiritual life and makes your glory to excel. It is a tool that God uses to humble and prune men. No wonder Apostle Paul said “I glory in my affliction”. See how 2 Corinthians 4:17 NLT puts it:

“For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”

The wilderness season is a training school God uses to purge the believer that will become an object of praise and glory. Why? Your character deficiencies will remain unless you go through the wilderness. So we see that today’s commit to memory says you need to go through the fire and water. Why? The fire of life are orchestrated to test and prove our faith in God and it’s in time like this that your commitment to God is evaluated, whether it’s firm, weak or sinking.

Reflection: The wilderness experience is a crucial process in the making of men, it’s by patience and the furnace of affliction you obtain the promise.

Prayer: Father, give me the courage and grace to go through every wilderness experience that will make me fulfil my destiny.
