Commit to Memory: “I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.” (Job 31:1 NLT)
Humility disappears and pride begins to reign and rule when Lust is at work. Job made up his mind never to lust and because this was just in the eyes of God, He gave him grace to overcome the sleep of lust. In Judges 16:19, Samson slept this terrible sleep on the laps of Delilah and the enemy’s opportunity to revenge Israel kick started as they cut off his hair- the very symbol of his strength and glory, no wonder he became powerless like ordinary men. The peril of lust didn’t end there as immediately he was captured by the philistines, they plucked out his eyes that was always lusting after strange women. Samson didn’t just lust after Delilah- he has been sleeping lustfully until he finally met Delilah who finally finished and rendered him powerless.
Samson slept the Sleep of Lust when he began to lust after strange women. How, where and when? The three women in Samson’s life were all Gentiles. The first was the woman from Timnah whom he married (Jud.14:1-7), the second was the whore (prostitute) from Gaza (Jud.16:1), and the third was the only woman mentioned by name, Delilah, with whom Samson “fell in love” (Jud.16:4). Can you imagine Samson- an Envoy of divine power and presence fell because of lust and the fall was a great fall. This is a warning and lesson the Lord is bringing your way today to take heed lest you fall. Judges 16:21 (WEB) says:
“The Philistines laid hold on him, and put out his eyes; and they brought him down to Gaza, and bound him with fetters of brass; and he did grind in the prison-house.”
Do you know there is a relationship between lust and sight? When the enemy wants to destroy and take away your gaze from God, he will cause you to begin to lust. Your lust is a trap to your loss. If you don’t want to suffer loss, don’t lust. It is for this reason that Samson was used to entertain the philistines on the occasion of celebrating their gods as they began to make mockery of him as Samson was compelled to make them sport as they set him between the pillars (Jud.16:25). I pray every sleep of lust that has captured your eyes and heart, the Lord will purge you of it in Jesus name.
Reflection: Continuous lust diminishes and destroys your sight. Flee youthful lust…
Prayer Lines: Father, make my eyes blind to the things that do not edify and build me up.
