Refuse to be Discouraged

Commit to Memory: “Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” Joshua 1:9 KJV

Christians of today’s world in the light of scriptures can be grouped into several categories: babes, young and matured Believers. But then, there is the category of the lukewarm and backsliding Believer.

There are many things that could make a Believer stumble, discouraged and disappointed. Principal among them is when those mentors they look up to leave the faith or portray attitudes contrary to the faith they so profess or once profess. For example: if you as a mentee of a so called mentor or Pastor was instructed to fast and all of a sudden you noticed that the one you value, respect and hold in high regard who gave this directive is eating as you suddenly find him in a restaurant unknown to him during the period he proclaimed the fast for the church he presides. When this happens, it is true that the humanity in you will react and for some mentees will want to leave the faith. Friends, if you do this then you are a babe in Christ. Why? You must give up childish behaviour and in this Light is disappointment.

As a child of God, you must realize that for the fact that the best of man is still a man, know today that man is frail, weak and of clay and so disappointment is in the humanity of mankind. So never ever leave Jesus because you were disappointed by any mortal. In our commit to memory today, God had to tell Joshua repeatedly on the need to refuse to be discouraged and disappointed over people and situations; he puts it this way. Be strong and courageous.

Reflection: When God wants to lift you, He will cause you to experience disappointments and discouragement to make you grow and wax strong for the greatness ahead.

Prayer Lines: Father, give me a large heart to overcome disappointments and discouragement.
