A Call to Meekness- part 3

Commit to Memory: “Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.”  James 3:13 KJV

It is often said that power corrupts absolutely, but when power is under the control of the Holy Spirit and becomes what the Bible refers to as the Meekness of Wisdom– this statement is not absolute.

Meekness is not apt to anger, such a fellow is not easily provoked or offended. A time came in the life of the disciples that while they went preaching, certain of the Samaritans did not want to hear or receive the gospel, John said , let us send fire from heaven to consume them but because Jesus was meek- he said not so, if one village refuse you, go into another to preach, don’t destroy them (Luke 9:51-56). Friends, the reason some of us are perhaps still encumbered with troubles is because the little position and power God has privileged us to, instead of us to use it to uplift people, we use it to oppress and destroy them.

Beloved, have you missed life changing opportunities? Have you lost a social capital that God designed to lift you later in life? A pointer to these losses could be lack of meekness. Are you meek and lowly? Do you desire and seek to be meek? Then find joy in pushing people upward, take delight in helping others achieve their dreams. We must as Believers strive for the traits that make for meekness: teachability, long suffering, willingness to be patient in persecution, enduring in tribulations, uncompromising in business, faithful in service, never intimidating or oppressing the less privileged and poor, don’t let affluence or power make you unruly and think more highly of yourself than you should. I pray that as you seek Jesus- the meek and lowly One you will begin to walk in Meekness now and always in Jesus name.

In Isaiah 53:6-7, it is recorded that Jesus displayed meekness at its peak. See exactly what our Saviour beared:

“…the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”

In today’s commit to memory, it doesn’t matter what your position in life is or who you are, the Lord is saying your response and feedbacks counts for meekness and wisdom. Jesus was tested and passed, likewise everyone’s meekness will be tested someday. For Elisha- he failed (2kgs 2:23-25), but for Jesus- he passed (1 Pet 2:23). May you pass and succeed in the eyes of the Lord.

Reflection: Can you be strong enough to be gentle in ugly moments or weak to cause casualties that will bring regrets?
