A Call to Meekness

Commit to Memory: “The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.”  Psalms 25:9 KJV

In the words of A.W Tozer: “Jesus calls us to his rest and meekness is His method. The meek man cares not at all who is greater than he, for he has long ago decided that the esteem of the world is not worth the effort.” Meekness is the nature of God and for the fact that we are created in the image of God makes it our inheritance. Little wonder Jesus, in the cause of His great invitation to mankind in Matt.11:29-30 admonished humanity to learn of Him. What exactly? Meekness. Why? Meekness will birth a Spirit controlled mind and body in a Believer.  Beloved, since you have been following Jesus till now, what have you learnt of Him? Have you learnt the meekness that was in Christ?

Meekness attracts the blessing of the Lord (Matt.5:5), it’s a virtue and fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal.5:23). It’s absolute power under the control of the Holy Spirit, not a sign of weakness but strength under control. Jesus gave us a profound benefit of this virtue in Matt.5:5 when He said

“Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.”

Beloved, God wants us to be meek like Jesus. He wants us to cultivate a gentle spirit, he desires that once you name the name of Christ; you should be mild and patient even when you are mistreated like Stephen (Acts 7:59-60), provoked or angered like Moses (Psalm 106:32), ridiculed or mocked like Elisha (2 Kgs 2:23-24). You must have the courage like Moses to stand for what is right and not backing down (Exo.32:26).

In our commit to memory today, there are two key rewards for meekness the Lord has purposed for as many that will toe this path; prominent among them is clarity and precision in judgement and then access and insights to divine mysteries and revelations. May this be your lot in Jesus name.

Reflection: Meekness makes you Christ centered and not self centered. Seek the virtue today.

Prayer Lines: Dear Holy Spirit, more than ever before make me meek and gentle in speech, comportment, action and character.
