Commit to memory: “Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life giving, life nourishing words.” Isaiah 55:3 MSG
Behold the great invitation the Almighty God sends out to as many that will come to Him. An invitation beckoning to rest- Come close now. What does it mean to come? A simple word but enriched with details and meanings. In this light, to come means to leave one thing to advance to another, so stop labouring in vain for things that will perish, come to the Father, look away from your fears, leave your toiling all nights and seasons, leave your self-reliant efforts, leave your sins behind, leave your presumptions, leave the crowd, leave all those you have put your trust and cleave to Jesus to experience rest for your soul. Jesus again presented to us this great invitation in John 7:37
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.”
Friends, Jesus is beckoning on you to come as you are today, not tomorrow, come as you are and wherever life’s troubles and the vicissitudes of life have knocked you down and so it says “Pay attention, come close now, listen carefully to my life giving and life nourishing words.” Are you in lack, thirst and hunger, wherever you are and whoever you are- for a user of this inspiration, that area of your life where you are in need of rest from labouring, I mean hard labouring with little or no tangible results- may God give you rest.
When you become born again, one of the first gifts the Lord gives is the gift of Rest. Why? God’s Rest is the gift that lifts a man and as the Lord sets you free from labouring- may you encounter the rest that only God can give- devoid of pain, sorrow and regrets. For David, it was war upon war- it was labouring, but for Solomon- it was rest after rest (1 kings 5:4). As you surrender to Jesus today, may he give you the rest that terminates restlessness and silences struggles in your life.
Reflection: When your restlessness submits to Divine invitation, the promise of Rest begins to rule and reign.
Prayer Lines: Father, I come to you as I am, put an end to restlessness in my life and give me rest round about.
