The Need for Discernment- part 5

Commit to memory: “And David inquired of the Lord, “Shall I pursue this raiding party? Will I overtake them?” “Pursue them,” he answered. “You will certainly overtake them and succeed in the rescue.1 Samuel 30:8 NIV.

It is often said that not all that glitters is gold. This means that not everything you behold that God is behind. So stop making investments on your own without divine endorsement (Isaiah 30:2), stop been pressured into starting relationships without divine prompting and embarking projects without seeking the face of God. You can’t just help the needy without finding about the mind of God concerning the matter. Stop changing jobs like clothes, stop the pity party and seek divine guidance, stop depending on your strength and skills rather start seeking God in everything. Why? When you seek God first in all things, you save energy, money and time.

In Acts 16:4-8, the bible gives another classical example of the need for Discernment to a Believer. Paul and Silas travelled through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, they wanted to share the good news but due to the fact that the Holy Spirit prevented them from preaching at that particular time, they didn’t preach. Later on in Acts 16:17, the Bible says they came to Mysia and then journey to Bithynia but there and then again- the Spirit of Jesus stopped them not to preach there. Why? The Almighty God had a plan in place and a mission to bring salvation to the people of Macedonia and not Asia and Bithynia at that time interval. It’s interesting Paul and Silas knew that it was the Lord that was speaking to them and never argued but obeyed as they were already used to the speakings and prompting of the Spirit on other matters in their lives and ministry. Despite all the education and exposure Paul especially had, its note taking that they did not ignore the speakings of the Spirit not withstanding they could count themselves justified that their cause is to increase the kingdom. Friends, stop depending on your strength, intellect, calculations, expertise, certifications and even your experience for experience is not the best teacher of the new covenant Believer- the Holy Spirit in the life of a Believer is the best and greatest teacher.

Stay put on Christ by living and walking in the Spirit in the face of destiny challenging decisions. It’s a very dangerous thing to put your trust in the prowess of the flesh. Jeremiah 17:5-8 NIV says:

“This is what the Lord says: “Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns away from the Lord. That person will be like a bush in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives. “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

In today’s commit to memory, David arrived Ziklag and discovered that the Amalakites had burnt the place, captured his people, his two wives and taken his people captive both young and old, they began to weep until they started fainting and all of a sudden David‘s men because of the captivity of their family members began to think of stoning David but the Bible says David encouraged himself and did the needful. What? “He inquired of the Lord”,  and the Lord gave him classified information of victory. Its interesting that until David inquired of the Lord, the Lord was silence on the matter. I pray you will not die in silence when you can cry for help in Jesus name.

So friends go all out of your way to seek divine direction, keep asking the Lord- never be tired, start seeking God’s will in all you do, behind all your decisions, motives and ideas; start seeking that God will obstruct and align them all with His will so that you can become all he wants you to be. May the Lord release the grace in Jesus name.

Reflection: Until you ask the Lord for divine direction, God may remain silence awaiting your call for help. Cry out to him today.
